A BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS STORY

The Tablecloth ~ An Amazing Christmas Story

The brand new pastor and his wife, were newly assigned to their first ministry. They were supposed to reopen a church in suburban Brooklyn. They arrived in early October excited about their opportunities. When they saw their church, it was very run down and needed much work. They set a goal to have everything done in time to have their first service on Christmas Eve.

They worked hard, repairing pews, plastering walls, painting, etc., and on December 18 were ahead of schedule and just about finished. On December 19 a terrible tempest - a driving rainstorm hit the area and lasted for two days. On the 21st, the pastor went over to the church. His heart sank when he saw that the roof had leaked, causing a large area of plaster about 20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall of the sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high.

The pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor, and not knowing what else to do, postponed the Christmas Eve service and headed home. On the way he noticed that a local business was having a flea market type sale for charity so he stopped in. One of the items was a beautiful, handmade, ivory colored, crocheted tablecloth with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross embroidered right in the centre. It was just the right size to cover up the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church.

By this time it had started to snow. An older woman running from the opposite direction was trying to catch the bus... She missed it. The pastor invited her to wait in the warm church for the next bus 45 minutes later. She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pastor while he got a ladder, hangers, etc., to put up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry. The pastor could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and it covered up the entire problem area. Then he noticed the woman walking down the centre aisle. Her face was like a sheet.. "Pastor," she asked, "where did you get that tablecloth?" The pastor explained. Then the woman asked him to check the lower right corner to see if the initials, EBG were crocheted into it there. They were. These were the initials of the woman, and she had made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria.

The woman could hardly believe it as the pastor told how he had just gotten the Tablecloth. The woman explained that before the war she and her husband were well-to-do people in Austria. When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave. Her husband was going to follow her the next week. He was captured, sent to prison and she never saw her husband or their home again.

The pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth, but she made the pastor keep it for the church. The pastor insisted on driving her home, that was the least he could do.. She lived on the other side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn for the day, doing a housecleaning job.

What a wonderful service they had on Christmas Eve. The church was almost full. The music and the spirit were great. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door and many said that they would return. One older man, whom the pastor recognized from the neighbourhood continued to sit in one of the pews and stare, and the pastor wondered why he wasn't leaving. The man asked him where he got the tablecloth on the front wall because it was identical to one that his wife had made years ago when they lived in Austria before the war and how could there be two tablecloths so much alike.

He told the pastor how the Nazis came, how he forced his wife to flee for her safety and he was supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and put in prison.. He never saw his wife or his home again in all these 35 years.

The pastor asked him if he would allow him to take him for a little ride. They drove to Staten Island and to the same house where the pastor had taken the woman three days earlier. He helped the man climb the three flights of stairs to the woman's apartment, knocked on the door and he saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever imagine.

FALL IS IN THE AIR

Can you believe that Fall is here?  I do think it is my favorite time of year.  Getting ready for the Holidays is always so much fun.  I am thinking soon I will do my fruit cake and fruit cake cookies as I seem to wait to the very last minute.

Hubby and I went for a ride and as you can see the Cotton is all bloomeed out.  Sometimes when it is alot more of the cotton it will look like a blanket os snow.  This is one sign that ole man winter isn't to for behind.

My mind just want work today so I will be back when I can think more of what to share with you.

WELL, THAT IS A DEEP SUBJECT

well, as I stated this is a deep subject.  I still can't get some of my pictures to load.  I want to just pull my hair out,
I know it is a simple thing to fix but for the life of me I can not figure it out.  Oh, it is just a few more grey hair I have added to my very much grey hair now.
So on to another subject-

The hubby found this at a yard sale the other day.  It is really unique and I just might have to keep this myself.  What do you think?  To keep or not to keep that is the question?

I am a vintage gal for sure  anything that is old is for me, now now, not my age but all the nice antique items I find.  I remember when I had to clean out my parents house and all the old stuff I either gave away or threw out.  Oh why did I do that, today all the STUFF is surre worth some money.  I would give anything to have a few pieces back.  Well, another ole saying, Don't cry over spilt milk.

I can sure tell that Fall is just around the corner, each day I look to see if it has made it to my house as it is still so darn HOT.
Looking forward to the cooler days

everyone, thanks for stopping by and reading my silly blog.  Sometimes the ole brain just thinks slow. Give someone a smile, it just might make their day as well as yours.

I found this at a yard sale and hubby says now where you going to put that?  I will never tell.  gotta love those yard sales.

I have been pulling my hair out looking for a book I know I had.  OK now fess up, did you take my book?  Lol.

Until later,

THE BEGINNING OF FALL

Hello and welcome,
well today is the first of September, before long the leaves will all trun their colors of browns, orange, yellows and oh the beauty of Fall.  I have to say this is my favorite part of the seasons.  The hubby and I took a ride the other day into the country and we could see the cotton blooms beginning to open up.  Once they are all in bloom it is like looking at a field of white snow.  Maybe i will get you a picture soon so you can see for yourself the beauty of the cotton.

I think of the days back when I went to the little red school house.  This was where I got my start of my future life and what I would become as a lady in the world.
I have so many memories of this school house.  If only the children today could just get a taste of our world I would hope they would want to be there also just as we were.

Oh my, do you rremember the S&H stamps?  My mother would lick and paste into her book and once it was full would pick out a prize she wanted from saving them.  The more you saved the better the  item to pick from.  I don't think anything like this is in our world today.
Just a short note to say welcome in the month of September.  I hope yours will be a great one and you find much happiness in the days to come.

TO GOOD TO BE TRUE

Hello, well, it would not work, the photos I mean.  I can get some from the Picasa ablum but not really the ones I want to use.  At one point my brain could figure it out but today I think it is the size of a pea.  So, what to do, what to do?

yep, maybe I will take a ride into the country today and see how the cotton patch is comming along.  When the fields get all bloomed out , it looks like a blanket of snow.  Maybe I will even take a picture for ya.  Oh wait, did I say Picture?  Can I get it to post, oh well. time will tell.
Today is laundry day and since I have the modern things to do this I was wondering who might remember using this washing machine?  I sure do, wait, I can';t tell you my age?  wink-wink
Those were the good ole days and if we could live like back in those days it would be a wonderful world to me.  I miss the good ole days, I read alot of the Amish books and their life is so peacefull, calm, and they live   a very different life for sure.

I hope you have a good day, take the time to sit back and enjoy all of the good things in your life.

TO GIVE UP OR NOT TO GIVE UP

Good  Morning, what to do, what to do, I am so about ready to throw in the towel as they say as I still can not get my pictyres to upload out of my photo album.  some i can get but not really the ones I want to use.  Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Sunday here in cloudy Florida and looks like rain might be moving in.  I love to hear the rain on the roof as it sings me to sleep.  The winds and thundering are a differrent story.

Yesterday hubby and I went to a yard sale but not much stuff.  I did find a quilt but after looking it over, for the price she wanted , I found big stains on it so passed it by.  Now, my friend Mona out in California, she finds the Treasures.  I tried to get her blog here but once again I could not, cry, woe is me.  she has a beautiful blog and the name is "Wsprsweetly of cottages"  I will work on trying to get it for you one of these days, in the meantime give it a try anyway.

I need to go and think about starting Lunch so I wish you a wonderful day, give someone a smile and not only will it make their day, but yours as well.

TO GIVE UP OR NOT TO GIVE UP, THAT IS THE QUESTION

Ok, I just want to say oh me, oh my.  I feel just like giving up but then I hear my Dear sweet Mother say, Honey, don't ever give up.  Try Try again.  so I will tackle this another day.

What am I talking about you wonder?  well, it is getting my pictures to post from "MY PICTURES" and not the Piscas album.  Yep, I tried the Google way but to no luck.  I wanna cry.

Another Hot day here in my part of Florida.  Where is Fall, I am so waiting for it to appear.  Again I tell you, I am not a summertime gal.  I like it cold as I love to snuggle under my blankie and read.  Just give me a quiet corner, my blankie and book and I am all good.  I do have to tell you what I told the hubby and my daughter the other day,I said now remember, when I die don't forget my blankie, my crochet thread and needle so I will have something to do down there.  How funny is that stupid thinking right? LOL

Wishing you a wonderful weekend and hopefully I will figure this picture stuff out one way or another.

WEDNESDAY IN FLORIDA

About Ménière’s disease

Ménière’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear that can affect hearing and balance. People suffering from Ménière’s disease experience a variety of symptoms that may come and go, ranging from extreme dizziness, vertigo (a feeling that your surroundings are moving when there is no actual movement), nausea, tinnitus (roaring, humming or ringing sounds in your ears), fullness, pressure and pain, and hearing loss.
Episodes of vertigo are considered the most prominent symptom, with episodes typically lasting at least 20 minutes. People with Ménière’s may find that the symptoms they experience create problems for them in their work, family and social lives resulting in a loss of confidence and independence. Many experience feelings of anger, frustration, depression and isolation. This is why new medicines for Ménière’s are needed.
Good morning, this is what I deal with alot.  It is a awfull thing so that is why my days are good one , bad ones.  Isn't growing older WONDERFUL.  Lol

KIDNEY STONES, OH LORDY

My goodness, I have never in my life been in so much pain.  I walked the floor for 5 hours before I gave up and went into the Hospital.  I sure hope you never have to see what it feels like to have this.  I have 2 large ones and so for they have not passed.  I do like stones but not this kind.

I am sure enjoying this nice sunny weather we are having.  So many got flooded out and I feel so sorry for them.  They have lost everything and of course INSURANCE  what a joke.  They tell you to let them know when you bought your items so they can take away some of the cost on them.  We give our money every month, but, when we need to get some of that money back to fix things, guess what, you fight to get it and if you do, it takes forever.  It doesn't take forever for them to get that payment does it.

Ok, I am through with the sad stuff, I hope each one reading my blog will have a wonderful day and it does me so good to share with you some of my daily events.  You are very special to me in every way.

God Bless

BEAUTY ON PALM SUNDAY

What a beautiful Sunday here in sunny Florida.  The birds are all out singing their songs and enjoying the day as well.  I noticed yesterday I have a Hummingbird comming around so I got out the feeder and made them some sugar water.  There is so many flowers in bloom as well as the trees adding all their green leaves.  Spring is such a beauty.

I wish you coiuld ride over and share your day with me.  I need to be doing some work but decided to take the day off and just sit back and relax.  I am showing my daughter  some old photos and oh the memories that come floating back.  I have several time thought about my childhood and the fun times I had growing up.  Would I go back to that time you say, Yes I sure would as I had a care free world at that time.  We want to grow up so fast, once we get there, we wish we could go back.  Are we ever pleased?  Anyway, one day at a time.

I need to get off and start lunch as the hubby says he is about ready to eat.  So until next time, enjoy your day, give someone a smile and maybe that will make their day.,

Hugs to you

A FUNNY FOR YOU TODAY

GOODBYE, MOM
A young man shopping in a supermarket noticed a little old lady following him around.
If he stopped, she stopped. Furthermore she kept staring at him.

She finally overtook him at the checkout, and she turned to him and said, "I hope I haven't made you feel ill at ease; it's just that you look so much like my late son."

He answered, "That's okay."

"I know it's silly, but if you'd call out 'Good bye, Mom' as I leave the store, it would make me feel so happy."

She then went through the checkout, and as she was on her way out of the store, the man called out, "Goodbye, Mom."

The little old lady waved and smiled back at him..

Pleased that he had brought a little sunshine into someone's day, he went to pay for his groceries.

"That comes to $121.85," said the clerk..

"How come so much? I only bought 5 items."

The clerk replied, "Yeah, but your Mother said you'd be paying for her things, too."

Bet you thought this was going to be a tearjerker.
Don't trust Little Old Ladies!!!

BLESSED ARE THE CRACKED,
FOR THEY ARE THE ONES WHO LET IN THE "LIGHT"!

BEAUTIFUL SUNNY FLORIDA

Hello my Dear friends and family, my mind has been running with thoughts this beautiful day  as to just how old I am getting.  Now this is so scarey, do you ever wonder about your lifespan?  I think of my Children and I know they are grown but the thought still wears on me.  I tell myself, the good Lord has the number of hair on my head counted so why worry, right?

It is such a pretty day out.  The flowers are in bloom and look so pretty as you walk out.

Our Bradford Peasr trees are snow white with all the blooms.  I did manage to get myself a Rose Bush
This is called the Knock-Out Rose.  I like them alot better as they seem to not need as much care.  By the way, I do not have a GREEN thumb.  Lol

I often think of the little Red school house that I went to when I was a younger thing.  The many memories and thoughts of those days.  As you can see my mind is traveling all over today.  I must been in another world.  Lol

Wishing everyone a nice  Spring day whereever you are.  Always remember to smile and live your life free of worries, ok.

SATURDAY IN SUNNY FLORIDA

Afternoon everyone, did I say sunny Florida?  Well, it is now raining so not so sunny after all.  I decided I needed to sit down and write some and hopefully relieve some of my stress.  Yep, I have that thing also called stress.  When you get to be older all sorts of things run through your mind and wear you down.  Ok now, you are here to smile, not be sad, right?

I decided to do just what my sign says today.

when the hubby and I were looking around in a antique shop one day I saw this plaque and I just had to have it.  I have had more fun with this, when he sees this on the table he decided it is time to go outside for awhile. Since we are retired we do need, or I should say I do, some space at times.  You ever get like this?

We were out riding on the golf cart the other day and I could see the beautiful trees beginning to show signs of Spring,   We have a couple who live around the corner and they have a mobile church, now some do not like this but I make no commets on this as to each his own I say,

I wanted to show you a picture but I have lost the way on how to post my pics.  So, until I learn what is going on with this puter of mine I will say see ya later,

REMEMBERING

1. Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.

2. Use a meat baster to “squeeze” your pancake batter onto the hot griddle and you’ll get perfectly shaped pancakes every time....

3. To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

4. To prevent eggshells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.

5. Run your hands under cold water before pressing Rice Krispies treats in the pan and the marshmallow won’t stick to your fingers.

6. To get the most juice out of fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature and roll them under your palm against the kitchen counter before squeezing.

7. To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on the stove top.

8. Spray your Tupperware with non stick cooking spray before pouring in tomato-based sauces and there won’t be any stains.

9. When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won’t be any white mess on outside of the cake.

10. If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it’s still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant “fix me up.”

11. Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

13. Place a slice of apple in hardened brown sugar to soften it.

14. When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn’s natural sweetness.

15. To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh, but if it rises to the surface, throw it away.

16. Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

17. Don’t throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

18. If you have a problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

19. Potatoes will take food stains off your fingers. Just slice and rub raw potato on the stains and rinse with water.

20. To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.

21. Ants, ants, ants everywhere … Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.

22. Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer. Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous china.

Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets. Polish jewellery. Drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewellery for two minutes. Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka-Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary). Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water.

Hello, I saw this on a blog Julie's Creations and wanted to share, some good advise I think, remember all the little things your parents told you when you were growing up?
I remember one that was told to me and it was so funny, we had black ants and they did not smell good once smashed, well, I was playing outside the kitchen window and my Mom was doing dishes as we had a window she could watch me from, well, I guess one of those black ants bit me and she heard me say, "that damn piss ant hurts."  She at that time of course came out told me that was now nice to say and I replied, "well Daddy says it,"  so guess who got in trouble?  Not me, lol

You have a wonderful day, remember to share a smile with someone today.

OLDER THAN DIRT-

Darn, I'm older than dirt !!

Someone asked the other day,
'What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?
'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up ?
I informed him , 'All the food was slow.'

'C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?'
'It was a place called 'at home,' I explained.
'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work,
we sat down together at the dining room table,& if I didn't like what she put on my plate, I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'
By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.
Here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it :

Some parents NEVER owned their own house, wore Levis , set foot on a golf course, traveled out of the country or had a credit card.

My parents never drove me to school. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow).

We didn't have a television in our house until I was 15. It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at 11, after playing the national anthem and a poem about God. It came back on the air at about 6 a.m. and there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people...
I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line.

Pizzas were not delivered to our home... But milk was.

All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers --my brother delivered a newspaper, six days a week. He had to get up at 5 A.M.every morning.

Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or most anything offensive.
If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren. Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing.

Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it?

Ok, enough said, you go and have a wonderful day.

SUNDAY BLESSINGS

"because he bends
down to listen,
I will pray as long as I have
breath~"
Psalms 116:2
(new living translation)

Good Morning to everyone,
Wishing you a great day, a day to relax and let the ole body rest.  Today I will do some crocheting and a do nothing else day.
I wanted to go for a long walk, but, seeing so much frost bitten plants and trees I decided to not go as it just makes me want Spring to hurry and come in.  Nothing like seeing and smelling the Roses and all the beautiful trees and flowers that Floreida has.
Make this a good day, give someone a Smile and enjoy your time.

IS IT FRIDAY ALREADY?

welcome to Friday in sunny Florida.  It is still rather cold out but hopefully tomorrow will be a nice sunny day with the temps in the 50's.  I am so ready for spring to make its way and this I don't usually say as I love the Winters but this year has been a terrible one.  The Orange trees look as if the coild has done them in and I hope not as they were so big and full this year.  Time will tell I guess.

I am trying so hard to get back to my ole self back but I sure am having a hard time of it.  Do you think it might be called ole age?  Someone told me to get my ump back drink a glass of wine a day so I am doing just that, but, where is the ump?  I haven't found it yet.

well, the birds are singing so it might be nice out and I will go take a walk to see what all the cold has killed around our place.  You have a nice day and maybe tomorrow the ump in my step will return and I will feel like blogging.

Sweet dreams

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

Good Morning to my great friends, I hope this finds you well and happy on this Super Bowl Sunday.  Do you celebrate this event?  Nope, I don't but I do watch it if a team is playing that I like.  I do like Denver so will watch while crocheting.

I am still feeling down and just can't seem to pull myself up like I should be.  I think the stress of all my Daughter is going through is the reason but what is a Mother to do when her Children are hurting.  I just pray and try to put it into Gods hands but just feel so helpless.  Oh well, this too shall pass.

Raining her today so for sure a stay inside day.  I am working on a crochet project and aboulf half way with it.  So much time and days go into this art but in the end it is so worth it.

Wishing you all a nice day, stay warm, safe and most of all happy.

SNOW IN SUNNY FLORIDA

Hello my Dear Friends,

Well, snow is on the way to sunny Florida.  The next 3 days will be a hard freeze so guess what, my bottom is staying inside except to build my snowman .  I am so excited.  I have been away for awhile with my Blog as my mind is just that, blogged.  Lol, did I say that right.  Sometimes things just happen in life that can sure throw you for a loop but slowly making my way back.

Wishing you a great day, I'll be back soon.

HELLO FROM CHILLY FLORIDA

It's me wishing you a nice Wednesday afternoon.  Begining to get really cold here again, our low tonight 25 so burrrrr that is cold.  We have such pretty days that I feel as if Spring is almost here then look out, ole man winter decides to return once again.

I have been sorta down lately and just not feeling up to doing my Blog.  My mind is so overloaded with , what is that word, "STRESS" that I can't think of what to post.  Don't want to load all my troubles on ya.

Maybe by the weekend I will feel more up to doing this so until then, stay warm and smile.
